Finally a book about Buffet financial sucess

I have read a few books about Warren Buffet and this is the first one that I have read about his financial accomplishment in this detail. Buffet is a wealthy man no doubt about but he is humble and hardworking. He made large contributions to a variety of charities and was very keen about paying it forward. With humble upbringing as a child hevlearned the basic concepts of being successful and instead to passing on his riches to his children he prefers that they learn this way as well.

I am an admirer of Warren Buffett. This is a very inspiring book about him and how he became successful in life. We all could learn something from this great man specially if we too want to be successful and become a billionaire. I highly enjoy learning from people who have already achieved what I want in life. This book is an excellent and easy read, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for success!

If you're looking for a short and sweet and highly motivating autobiography you've found one. Buffet's perception of his own wealth and the creation of immense wealth in general is spot on - acknowledging both the skill and good fortune needed to attain it. With a plan to give 83% of his fortune to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and encouraging other billionaires to do the same I have gained even more respect for him.

An excellent story of a war that never was

The red gambit series tries to answer the question that every student of WW2 has at some point asked himself: what if the Soviets and the Allies went to war with each other after Germany was defeated?

The stage is, after all, set: two powerful war machines, the Red Army and the Allied army. They're mobilized, equipped, ready to go. Their respective nations are already on a war footing. Demobilization hasn't happened yet, but tensions are rising. In short, they're all at the party, they're all dressed up and ready to go.

So what if they just settled it right there and then? Really, it's the only time they could have. A few short years after the war both sides had nuclear bombs, and any real war was out of the question due to the thread of nuclear armageddon. But for a few short years right after WW2, it was possible.

The red gambit tells the story of that war. Call it WWIII, or the continuation of WWII. In the first 3 books, the Soviets attack and push back the Allies. The allies finally manage to stop the Red Army and in this book, they go on the offensive. And how!

Be warned that this series (and this book) does have some rough edges. The plot is thin, as is the character development for most characters in the book. It's only really there to string together the larger story, which is the tale of a war that could have been. But that's the point; this series isn't out to tell us about star-crossed lovers, or a heroic yet quirky band of soldiers. It tells the story of a war, and characters, places, units are all a means to an end: to give a good view of the big picture. Viewed from that angle, the plot here is anything BUT thin.

There are also many spots where the book could have benefited from a good editor. Things don't always 'hang together' as well as they could, there are spelling errors (though few), maps are obviously hand-drawn. None of this distracts from the story, and I personally don't mind. It's obvious that the series is a labor of love for the author, who's doing it all himself and is doing an admirable job at that.

In the end, this book is incredible; it's very well researched, fast-paced and difficult to put down. I'm reading it right now, having read all the previous books in the series and I'm torn: I can't stop reading, but I don't want it to be over.

Not a bad dilemma to have. If you like military fiction or alternate history, get this book now!

OK, but not what as good as I had hoped based on the prior books

Having read Mr. Gee's prior books in the series, I was very much looking forward to this book. Unfortunately, while his writing on the unit conflicts very good, the overall strategic direction not consistent with how the allies likely would have pursued the war from a strategic air perspective, which, in turn, would have had its own impact on the progress of the war. Specifically, given that the Russians had all their oil coming from Azerbaijan, I would have expected that to be a key attack point of the Allies strategic air forces. Given that the Germans would have told the Allies the impact that the bombing had on the German fuel supplies, this would have been the key target. As the Russians were end the end of a long supply line, this would have rendered their forces subject to interdiction and been a major problem for them, which would have been even worse if the allies chose to attack Azerbaijan itself. As such, this would have impacted the Russians' ability to pursue their offense. As such, this book seemed like more filler than pursuing the direction of the war to conclusion. Having said that, I have like Mr. Gee's work and will buy the next book. I applaud him for his work.

More gritty action, in depth detail

I liked it, a good follow up to the previous 3 book, fleshing out more of the story. We appear to be running out of likeable characters as they are made casualties though. Some of the plotlines appear to me to be bit contrived to give more equalization of the forces in play, around the B-29's for example. Sometimes the apparent invicibility of some of the Soviet and Japanese forces does grate a bit as well, but overall it does mostly build up the feel of the story we are being given. Like some others I found the Dacha scene a bit gratutious for this kind of book, but I can perhaps see where the plot line may be heading, but that could have been achieved without some of the detail.

Nonetheless, looking forward to the next installments. I do like the detail that is given around equipment, tactics and the overall flow of the story.

Love this book. Got me so motivated and energized and I believe the concepts apply to anyone in life (we are all selling something, some of the time... whether trying to sell health food to our children, to get them to eat it, or ourselves in a job interview, or something that we've created, or as part of our job). My favorite part of this book was where Postema talked about the different kinds of customers, their attitudes, which affect how they relate to a salesperson... he includes critically valuable info about how to adjust your approach so as to deal with or sidestep the anti-purchasing issues of a particular type of customer (I'm going to re-read this bit to understand it better, so that I can identify a potential clients issues early on in the pitch process). I read the author's other book on designing your life and loved it (even more). Just bought two more, one the best-selling life coach author wrote about unleashing your mojo and another one about financing your life (it has ancedotes/stories to illustrate a financial life makeover)... If you like this book you MUST buy his book on designing your life... it's about mental mastery and setting and achieving goals and is highly energizing and motivating (that one I'm going to reread each night before bed to help program my subconscious mind).

Did not learn much from this book. Very light on the psychology of sales. It only skimmed through the surface. Guess you get what you pay for. The price you pay is indicative of the advice you get in this case.

It has some great tips of how to get a sale done, I like it a lot and I kind of feel more confident about it now. I particularly enjoy most the last chapters it has great advices and it is motivational.

i am a huge fan of The new york public library series. and it just so happens that im obsessed with greek mythology. this was a very good book. it covered the basics of almost every culture that there were stories in. i learned a lot about other countries that i didnt know about. i highly recommend this book.

I was not very impressed. No pictures, not written for my son's age (8 1/2). I was hoping for tales of Cerberus etc. and they were not there. Too bad, I would not recommend this book to a friend.

A wonderful book, and a great help.

I wish I could give this book more than five stars. I have made lots of furniture mistakes over the years, and now I can begin to see why. The next best thing to this book would be having Leonard Lewin by your side when you shop for furniture! He takes you through the basics (wood, wood veneer, wood finishing, shopping for wood, basic furniture construction and pieces, upholstery, leather, personal style, going to stores, dealing with sales personnel and designers, interpreting advertising). What's more, he lists brands and stores to think about and visit, by area, name and volume). This book will be extremely useful to me, and I plan to reread several of the chapters before buying any furniture. The tone of the book is easygoing and informative, never dull. Most of all, his philosophy that while being an expert helps, all of us can do enough homework to understand what we need to bring to the furniture buying experience. I highly recommend this book, and plan to go back to it in the future (maybe even keep it in the car, since I wouldn't be able to hide it in the store).

Great resource if you are planning on purchasing furniture. Len catagorizes the major furniture manufactures by quality, what kind of quality cues to look for and what some of the best furniture stores are. He'll also answer your questions by email!

Good Guide for the uninitiated

I knew nothing about the details of furniture construction before I read this book. I now feel confident in shopping for all types of furniture. I can now look for signs of quality construction and ask the right questions to let the salepeople know I'm not willing to buy just on looks. The details of how certain pieces are made is important for longevity. Highly recommended read!
