Not Good Enough.

I’ll start by saying that one of the things I have always loved about Mercy Celeste’s writing is the passion. The characters – whether I love them or hate them – have always inspired passion for me. The sex is terrific and her books always storytelling more than just reading. She pushes boundaries, some may not have liked them, but I always have - you’ll find them on my Books of the Year lists. This book pushed no boundaries, not even taboo. The sex didn’t inspire me. That shocked me as Mercy Celeste writes THE best sex in any romance genre.

This novella is not passionate. It is flat. The characters lack depth. The erotic content is not nearly as erotic as Beyond Complicated, Under a Crescent Moon or, say, Six Ways From Sunday, to name a few. I put this down for a while, but as a friend pointed out, it is short. So I finished without much enthusiasm.

Kyle and Kevin, right, I really don’t like characters starting with the same initial (I kept forgetting who was talking, same initials, same voice…), are nineteen year old twins who have the hots for one another. Kevin is gay, Kyle isn’t. Hmm, that changed quickly. But, wait! The whole story is in the blurb – and tons of other twincest books – so there is no point in me saying much because there really isn’t much of a story. Nineteen year olds f******, evil female cheerleader, who was not at all fleshed out, evil parent, accepting parent. Some friends. Plenty of “unexpected” gay characters. This book is clear cut – good people, bad people and mediocre sex.

If you like the twincest subgenre, Two Point Conversion is not a bad read. If you like more depth and, like me, expect more from this author, and I always do, then you may also feel disappointed.

Oh my gosh, I loved it! If you don't like taboo subjects then this isn't the book for you. I have been waiting for this to come out and boy was it worth the wait! Love this author, writing is so good along with her other books! Better be a sequel, cause I will buy it once it comes out!

So be warned, I wasn't. I purchased this book before I read on the authors web page that there would be a sequel. If only authors would be upfront.....I happen to love this author, and her book "Behind Iron Lace" will forever be on my favorites shelf. But, I will not purchase another of her books.

I would have given 5 stars, otherwise.

Honest and heartfelt more than hip and hardened

Jenny Bahn is like an art kid who couldn't escape the elite pretty girl clique, but made elite pretty girl her day job while working as our secret agent on the fashionable inside. Thank goodness for the photographer who suggested that Jenny Bahn be a writer.

Her first book, "Brooklyn Love Stories" is a collection of short pieces about 20-something Brooklynites falling in and out of love. It's a different matter than her observations at jennyblovesyou, cultofugly, ladyclever -- here Bahn makes observations about things that didn't really happen, but gets the hardest part right: making an empty old man like me care about the kids in the book, kids who belong to the generation that tries not to care. Bahn writes emotion and dialogue in the sharp manner of cool kids -- like paper cuts you don't feel until they hurt like hell, and by then they've changed the subject.

"Brooklyn Love Stories" ground my heart to dust, in a good way. It's honest and heartfelt more than hip and hardened, worthy of compliments and attention.

An Exciting New Voice

I have been a regular reader of writer Jenny Bahn's excellent blog "jenny b loves you" where several of these stories first appeared, but reading them collected here all together added up to a much deeper experience. The sum was greater than the parts. The characters recurred, changed and grew. Taken together they form a portrait of a generation looking for love in a merciless city that conspires to prevent it.

A fantastic read from a very talented writer!!!

Brooklyn Love Stories was an absolute joy to read!

I've procrastinated writing this review because such an eloquent piece of writing deserves an equally articulate review and I knew I wouldn't be able to do it justice. Jenny Bahn is an incredibly gifted writer. She seamlessly weaves together humor and poignancy with an authenticity that few can achieve. You are completely invested in each character to the point that you miss them when you are finished. They creep into your subconsciousness and become real people with whom you are concerned and invested.

I am an old school reader who has resisted the kindle mostly because I can't shake my habit of folding pages with exceptionally written passages that I inspire me as a writer. When I finished Brooklyn Love Stories, I had to laugh because almost every page had been folded, sometimes two or three times, causing its density to approach phone book girth.

I could not have enjoyed this book any more! Bravo Ms. Bahn!!

Cute but not a lot of new ideas

Cute book, not really anything absolutely new with the exception of the cute deer quilt square. I am sorry to say I won't be making but two projects out of this book. I agree with another reviewer that it does not list the finished size of any of the finished projects. If I had a chance to see the book and known that prior, I would not have purchased it.

No immediate sizes of item being described...you have to look within the pattern to find the info and figure it out on your own. First book I have found this way. So what is the big mystery to be as to the size of each item being made? I have no idea as that is a very frustrating component for me when it is not noted upfront.
