i am a huge fan of The new york public library series. and it just so happens that im obsessed with greek mythology. this was a very good book. it covered the basics of almost every culture that there were stories in. i learned a lot about other countries that i didnt know about. i highly recommend this book.

I was not very impressed. No pictures, not written for my son's age (8 1/2). I was hoping for tales of Cerberus etc. and they were not there. Too bad, I would not recommend this book to a friend.

A wonderful book, and a great help.

I wish I could give this book more than five stars. I have made lots of furniture mistakes over the years, and now I can begin to see why. The next best thing to this book would be having Leonard Lewin by your side when you shop for furniture! He takes you through the basics (wood, wood veneer, wood finishing, shopping for wood, basic furniture construction and pieces, upholstery, leather, personal style, going to stores, dealing with sales personnel and designers, interpreting advertising). What's more, he lists brands and stores to think about and visit, by area, name and volume). This book will be extremely useful to me, and I plan to reread several of the chapters before buying any furniture. The tone of the book is easygoing and informative, never dull. Most of all, his philosophy that while being an expert helps, all of us can do enough homework to understand what we need to bring to the furniture buying experience. I highly recommend this book, and plan to go back to it in the future (maybe even keep it in the car, since I wouldn't be able to hide it in the store).

Great resource if you are planning on purchasing furniture. Len catagorizes the major furniture manufactures by quality, what kind of quality cues to look for and what some of the best furniture stores are. He'll also answer your questions by email!

Good Guide for the uninitiated

I knew nothing about the details of furniture construction before I read this book. I now feel confident in shopping for all types of furniture. I can now look for signs of quality construction and ask the right questions to let the salepeople know I'm not willing to buy just on looks. The details of how certain pieces are made is important for longevity. Highly recommended read!

Stone presents a series of aural-architecture moments, each of which brings architectural space into conversational relationships with extra-architectural concepts and perceptions, often suggested by other art forms and social practices. He considers, for example, the acoustic themes of a silent movie; Greg Louganis's failed dive at the Seoul Olympics and the moral values attached to water in architecture; the custodianship of high culture at a second-hand classical record shop in London; and hair (as in the conductor's hairstyle) as a mediating form between music and architectural space.

In Auditions, Stone brings together and revises the canonical instances of sound's relationships with architectural spaces, and he does so by granting new kinds of spatial agency to sound. Sound is not only a portal into otherwise imperceptible aspects of architecture but also a reflection on the concepts that produce our expectations of architecture.

Cooking The Sephardic Way

Love this recipe book. My mother-in-law passed away and I was lucky enough to get it. She used the recipes for years and we loved everyone of the great foods she made from it. Now I am making all these great family tradition recipes and getting a very happy response because I am the only one who makes these. Sad to say it is falling apart from being used so much. I plan on getting one in better condition, but I will always hang onto this one.

My grandma in a book

So happy I found a copy! Wish they would continue to publish it. It has all the recipes for the foods I remember my grandmother cooking. I've used my copy since it was published in 1971. It is battered and stained and loved. Now I have found and bought 2 copies to give to my 2 college aged daughters so they can mark up and star the ones they love the best as they leave home. Nostalgia could not be sweeter!
