About the Author
Ken Gray is currently a Senior Director, Architecture, Cisco Systems. Previously he was a Director at Juniper Networks responsible for technical strategy and innovation for Juniper Network's Platform Systems Division, with a particular focus on core routing and the evolving area of Software Defined (Driven) Networks. From 1995-2011 Ken worked at Cisco Systems from 1995-2011 Ken worked at Cisco in a variety of roles, ultimately as a Principal Engineer working on the development and deployment of high-end routing platforms and operating systems. From 1984 to 1995, Ken was a network geek responsible for designing large public and private networks at a company that ultimately became Verizon. Ken is the co-author of SDN: Software Defined Networks (O’Reilly 2013)

Thomas D. Nadeau is Chief Architect of Open Source and Distinguished Engineer at Brocade Communications. Prior to that he was a Distinguished Engineer in The PSTD CTO Office at Juniper Networks where he is responsible for leading all aspects of Software Defined Networks and Network Programmability. Thomas received his BSCS from The University of New Hampshire, and a M.Sc. from The University of Massachusetts in Lowell, where he has been an Adjunct Professor of Computer Science since 2000 and teaches courses on the topic of data communications. He is also on the technical committee of several prominent networking conferences where he provides technical guidance on their content, as well as frequently presents.

Well paced, well documented book, of reference quality, reads like a novel

This book is part of a "Minute by Minute" Series of a few books which trace some historical events. Jonathan Mayo has written several such books, and has a background with the BBC. The book is written in a journalistic style, largely in the present tense and is very thorough in its listing of events and historical characters, and thus quite educational. It is fast and easy reading. By way of "full disclosure", the co-author Emma Craigie is my first cousin, once removed--and that fact peaked my curiosity about buying it. I had not read anything of hers previously.

Very Misleading Title

The book's title Hitler's Last Day Minute by Minute: The hidden story of an SS family in wartime Germany is misleading. I read a serialization of this book in the UK press. The serialization concentrated on the actual last day in the Bunker. I expected the full book to be details of the same. Less than a third of the book is about the persons in the Bunker or Hitler himself. The details of Hitler's last day are superficial. Everything about that is well known and nothing "hidden."

The book felt as if the authors chose random personal accounts from that day and could only tie them together chronologically (hour by hour not minute by minute). The greatest part of the book is personal anecdotes of people nowhere near Hitler that day. What do the actions of future US President John F. Kennedy, in a California hotel room, have to do with Hitler's last day? He was not yet a politician, but was a reporter. What was the point of mentioning how much his newspaper was paying him? If you are looking to read a detailed account about what happened to Hitler and his entourage in the Bunker that day, look elsewhere.

The title hooked me, the text bored me.

A unique approach to the last days of WWII, but the minute by minute format didn't work well making it hard to track. Because the story jumped around to keep the format, it lost momentum and my interest. Significant chunks of the work is made up from primary resource citations without adequate analysis to justify it. It's not plagiarism, but lazy history to meet a page count. I spent 99 cents (Kindle special). Probably would have enjoyed a 99 cent donut more.

About the Author
 Mike Palmquist is an Associate Provost at Colorado State University, where he leads university-wide efforts to enhance learning and teaching in face-to-face, blended, and distance courses. A professor of English and University Distinguished Teaching Scholar, he is recognized nationally for his work in computer-supported writing instruction and, in particular, in designing Web-based instructional materials to support writing. His most recent Web-based projects are Writing@CSU (http://writing.colostate.edu), an open-access, educational Web site for writers and writing instructors, and the WAC Clearinghouse (http://wac.colostate.edu), the leading site for communication across the curriculum. He is the author of numerous articles and essays on writing and teaching with technology and writing across the curriculum. In 2004, he received the Charles Moran Award for Distinguished Contributions to the Field, which recognizes "exemplary scholarship and professional service to the field of computers and writing." In 2006, the CCCC Committee on Computers in Composition and Composition named him Outstanding Technology Innovator. From 2009 to 2011, he served on the Executive Committee of the National Council of Teachers of English and as chair of the NCTE’s College Section. He is the author of Joining the Conversation: Writing in College and Beyond (Bedford/St. Martin’s, 2010); The Bedford Researcher, Third Edition (Bedford/St. Martin’s, 2009); and Designing Writing: A Practical Guide (Bedford/St. Martin’s, 2005).

Atrocity for Second Graders

I learned everything inside of this book my freshman year of high school. It is most definitely not a college level reading resource. I almost cried while reading some of these chapters. Multiple times, I contemplated ending my own life instead of reading the next chapter. I thought to myself, "If this is where the majority of college students should be, I am a complete and utter genius and the world does not deserve my knowledge. The future of this nation is an atrocity, and the fact that this book was a part of my required reading only emphasizes this thought. I am not saying that this author is completely illiterate, but I mistook this book to be written for children, eight years of age. I seriously thought that I covered these topics years ago. This book was seemingly meant for second graders- very smart second graders, but second graders nonetheless." Do not buy this book.

About the Author
Benton attended Pace University.

Robert DiYanni is Professor of English at Pace University, Pleasantville, New York, where he teaches courses in literature, writing, and humanities. He has also taught at Queens College of the City University of New York, at New York University in the Graduate Rhetoric Program, and most recently in the Expository Writing Program at Harvard University. He received his B.A. from Rutgers University (1968) and his Ph.D. from the City University of New York (1976). Robert DiYanni has written articles and reviews on various aspects of literature, composition, and pedagogy. His books include Literature: Reading, Fiction, Poetry, Drama and the Essay; The McGraw-Hill Book of Poetry; Women s Voices; Like Season d Timber: New Essays on George Herbert; and Modern American Poets: Their Voices and Visions (a text to accompany the Annenberg-funded telecourse, Voices and Visions). With Kraft Rompf, he edited The McGraw-Hill Book of Poetry, (1993) and The McGraw-Hill Book of Fiction (1995). With Pat Hoy, he edited Encounters: Readings for Inquiry and Argument (1997).

Well written overall

As far as textbooks go, this one is very readable and thorough. Some of the ways that the more touchy-issues are described (ex: religious things) are a little loaded at times, and usually inaccurate to some degree. But, overall, a great book and a good choice if you're trying to learn about the issue.

I love this

Just before Christmas 2008, I came across a website whose angelic energy was overwhelming and this experience prompted me to investigate angelic symbols and imagery. I was immediately led to this book and the symbols within it. When I received these symbols, I was instantly aware of the intense vibrations inherent in them. Peaceful, loving and intense. I have been working with angelic energies as a Usui Reiki Master and an energy healer for the past four years and have been very interested in the ascention of the planet. I find the energy and love of these symbols to be truly divine. It is amazing that we can go online now and find something that would have been buried deep in some mystery school, and order it for our own use. Much like Reiki, these symbols cannot be used for anything negative or manipulative. Their energy is guided by the angels, and thus, Divine Mind. Entering into a relationship with them is an awesome gift and I have loved every second working with them and seeing how the healing vibrations resonate through my life and help me to resolve and lift personal issues that have limited me. I have been working with them daily for about a month and am excited to think about what lies ahead. I would recommend these to everyone who feels the slightest twinge to explore this aspect of being. In fact, if you are reading this, you're already there.

Powerful tool for healers

I bought this book because when I picked it up in a bookstore, the vibration was palpable and steadying. I have used the symbols on myself, and found fascinating results from them. I do not claim to understand this system, or the Archangel Michael (to whom the symbols are credited), but the symbols really have power and it is well worth the small price of the book to have them. They come on cards, which can be laid on a chakra or placed in a room and do their work independently. If you sense the earthy magnetic vibration when contemplating buying the book, I would say that you are meant to have it!

Interesting tale for 9/11 "veterans"

If you've ever tried to explain to anybody why the official story of 9/11 doesn't hold water, and you've suffered sarcasm, disbelief, obstinacy, and/or insults as a result, well, don't feel too sorry for yourself: Jon Gold has had it worse! Plus, he gets it from both sides. He's out there taking crap from so-called "debunkers," which is to be expected, and also from fellow "9/11 Truthers," who can be a real cranky bunch of grumblers. So in addition to a generous helping of 9/11 related information, some of which you're almost guaranteed not to have heard before because Gold is a very thorough researcher, all the fighting and name-calling makes for a pretty cracking read.

The 9/11 Truth "community" such as it is divides along various lines. You've got your genuine fringe (and I'm sure this is offensive to somebody), you know, the hologram and space blaster people. You've got your Pentagon plane vs. missile sideshow. The thing that seems to bug Jon Gold the most is the relative popularity of controlled demolition as the "smoking gun" of choice for many people. So there's a rift I hadn't really been aware of: people who obsess over arguing that the building collapses were obviously controlled demolitions, vs. people (like Jon) who say hey, that's a theory, let's stick to known facts. (Then the first group would say hey man, we do have facts, and the argument would go on from there and spiral downwards until somebody loses by virtue of Godwin's Law.)

It's enough to make you want to stay very private with your own paranoid theories and avoid communities altogether.

Anyway, Jon's a very straightforward writer, a very honest one it seems to me, and he doesn't try to claim he's always been the role model or always been right. He does claim to have learned a few things the hard way along the road. This is not the book to read if you're looking for the definitive case for an alternative view of 9/11. It's not organized that way, although it's sprinkled with interesting facts. No, you read this to get a sense of what it's like for an average concerned citizen to try making a difference out there on the front lines.

I'd recommend it for "veterans" of 9/11 analysis who are ready for a retrospective, and also for anyone who thinks "Truthers" are a bunch of nut jobs. I've had enough conversations in my life to know that people changing their minds is rare. But hey, take the glimpse. Get to know Jon and see if you don't think this is a decent guy trying to do the decent and honorable thing.

9/11 TRUTHER Jon Gold

This book outlines the need for further investigation surrounding an event that has changed the whole political system in our country, without taking us down the road of absurd speculation. Jon gives a list of known facts and instances where the people who could have investigated and should have , did not .He strongly advocates for the victims and our Right to know what really happened. You won't find any support for unproven theories or conspiracies and you may be disappointed if that's what you're looking for.Jon explains how these theories have contributed to the marginalising of the call for investigations and only serves those who are not interested in facts. But don't worry it's still rich in intrique and has the faint arroma of a cloak and dagger novel written devoid of fiction, but packed with links and citation.

How does one endeavor to describe the life of a 9/11 Truther?

The introduction by Gold's now bff, Cindy Sheehan gives the reader insight into not only Gold's life story, but almost more importantly, Sheehan's experience with so many in the movement--who endlessly barrage her with their off-putting behavior. However, America's favorite Gold Star Mother describes how Jon Gold's gentle and practical approach to the subject not only made her want to eventually champion actions like NYCCAN but also fostered their friendship which is symbiotic for peace, truth and justice.

Jon Gold's story begins as an "everyman's" tale...a son of a Philadelphian educator, from a broken home, bounced between his mother in New Jersey and father in Pennsylvania with a fascination for superheroes... Frankly, one could hardly describe a more 'normal' broken-family American life. Then, on September 11, 2001, Gold recalls what many on that day felt. Being moved as he was, on the night of 9/11, Gold made a beautiful picture of the New York skyline with the twin towers faded out and the caption, "God Bless The Firemen, The Police, The Port Authority, and The Families That Said Goodbye On 9/11".

Like many Americans, Gold had never followed world events, but for the months that followed that horrible day, Gold was glued to the news and believed the reports--that there were absolutely no warnings for 9/11. Gold was happy when we finally retaliated in our war with Afghanistan. However, by January of 2002, Gold read in disbelief that George W. Bush personally asked then Senate Majority Leader, Tom Daschle to limit the scope of the congressional investigation into the attacks of 9/11. He was further confounded when, then Vice President Dick Cheney made the same request of Daschle. As a result, Gold began to look at 9/11 related news a little more closely. By May of 2002, the PDB (Presidential Daily Briefing) entitled, "Bin Laden Determined to Strike in the US" was leaked to the media and along with the story of unusually large amount of put-options of American Airlines stock (which again suggested foreknowledge--and the stonewalling of any investigation into who placed them) Gold was furious. He started looking further into the 9/11 and found that the original story of there having been "absolutely no warnings" looked more and more dubious. After sending local media outlets "leads" concerning the families' 441-day struggle for a 9/11 investigation as well as letters to his Representatives, he grew frustrated with the outright ignoring and at best, form letters he received in response.

There are many well-meaning 9/11 Truthers who talk about their "theories", but Gold never ventures into such treacherous territory because from the day itself to over eleven years later, Jon Gold's tireless work has been to honor "the firemen, the police and the families that said goodbye on 9/11". Although the 9/11 Commission Report was billed as the full account of what happened that day, testimony of whistle blowers such as Sibel Edmonds and the third building's complete collapse (Building 7) never even received so much as a footnote in the 571-page lie. The 'definitive report' even had the nerve to say that the source of funding the 9/11 attacks was of "little practical significance". The terrible price of 2977 souls that the 9/11 victims' families paid on that day for our government's unbelievable failures deserves nothing less than a full independent forensic investigation and accountability--including criminal prosecution. The families have gotten none of this from our government, but as Gold documents in 200 plus pages of the tireless research, court cases, media articles, public outreach efforts, and civil disobedience actions for truth, accountability and justice of this one 9/11 Truther, it has not been for lack of trying.
