About the Author
Ronald Dunn was in ministry for more than thirty years before his death in the summer of 2001. In 1975, he left the pastorate to found Lifestyle Ministries, an organization that promotes conferences and produces Bible study tapes for missionaries, lay people, and students. Dunn traveled forty weeks each year -- mostly to churches --holding conferences and frequently speaks overseas. Dunn has also served as an adjunct professor at two seminaries. He is the author of several books, including the popular "Don't Just Stand There ... Pray Something."

"When Heaven Is Silent" by Ron Dunn is an excellent for anyone needing encouragement that God cares, even when He is apparently silent during the tough times we go through.

Some of the points he mentions include:

1. Looking for the quick fix and easy path puts us in bondage.
2. Faith has the courage to see things the way they are.
3. Often there is a mixture of good and evil in our lives.
4. We need to accept life's mysteries and that some things will remain unanswered.
5. Egocentric people are miserable human beings.
6. You can trust God and still get hurt.
7. The worst kind of loneliness is feeling abandoned by God.
8. The "dark night of the soul" is an inevitable and legitimate experience for every Christian.
9. When you don't know what to do, keep walking in faith.
10. Put your confidence in God instead of your experience or ability.

The title contains excellent content and is peppered with several instances of humor - an important asset to have in life.

Read, enjoy, and be encouraged and challenged to fix your focus on Jesus Christ instead of yourself.

Dealing With the Death of a Son

I first read this book some years ago while I was trying to come to grips with the suicide of my son. This book was very helpful to me in facing this tragic event. Although the book is out of print, it is well worth your while to chase down a copy particularly if you are dealing with the loss of a loved one. Ron Dunn discusses in an honest and open manner the emotions and pain of dealing with situations in which God doesn't answer prayers as we expected. It was a great encouragement to me to realize that I was not alone in some of the struggles with God that I went through. I have never forgotten Ron's admonition to not ask "Why?", but instead ask "What Now?".

Highly recommended

John Gabriel draws from his experiences and manifold success as a high school English teacher, team leader and administrator in writing this book. He gives clear, practical advice and a true vision to accomplish the curriculum goals of any school as a team leader. Honing one's own intuitive sense, and skills of communication, trouble shooting, prevention of foreseeable problems, and motivation of teachers toward a common goal are only a few of the accomplishments of this book. The author addresses differentiated curriculum, much needed today with our increasingly diverse student population in the regular classroom. I was impressed with his varied and incremental approach to change when faced with resistance by teachers or administrators. Time and again, the author demonstrates that good intuition coupled with a tireless and thorough effort yield results in higher student achievement and test scores. If team leaders follow the approach of this book, their students, teachers and whole school will benefit. With the "No Child Left Behind" Act and high stakes testing now in place nationwide, this book is vital and gives the proper frame to accomplish any school's goals.

Good book!

I had to buy this book for a class. It has some great ideas for school wide leadership by using teacher leaders. The book correctly points out that administrators come and go, but teachers are usually there for much longer. So it makes more sense for teachers to take more of a leadership role.
I would recommend this book.

I gave it a 4 because I don't know if there's anything revolutionary about it's approach, but it does make some good points and make us notice things that were in front of us the whole time.

Great book

I consider this book a "pencil against the paper" method of learning. It goes straight into every subject without much covering it again throughout the rest of the book. Each page has its purpose and while it is a great book to open your mind to perspective, you must have a strong background in math to understand it. It goes straight from point to point and straight into Geometric Calculations. If you do not understand Geometry, you will not understand most of this book. It does not go much into explaining the formulas or give examples of its work. It does offer very important view points when understanding perspective in painting, but in my opinion can be very direct and too mathematically based at times without respect for artistic representation. This book is DEFINITELY worth reading and worth buying for the right price. It is a very thorough book and contains many many things in relation to perspective and distance, but I wish it would have just been a little bit more understanding to those less mathematically inclined. My opinion is that if you're capable of understanding the formulas, this book might just be for you. If you want a more thorough explanation of perspective with a little more focus on artistic expression, try "The Art of Perspective" by Metzger.

Better off with an alternative supplement

I studied corporate tax using several supplements, and this one is by far the worst among the bunch. Even after learning things during class and research in other sources this book is difficult to understand. The wording in every section is ambiguous as to what party is being referenced, and the numerous "examples" do little but confuse with way to much information and zero charts or illustrations.

Corporate tax is an involved and complicated subject, and I feel that this supplement (to the small extent it is intelligible) goes into deep enough detail. Still, it is confusingly written.

If you need a supplement, I recommend opting for the Corporate Tax E&E.
