By necessity, Rhodes emphasizes King's life as the wife of Martin Luther King, Jr. While this aspect of her life is important, even critical, she is much more than the spouse of a Civil Rights icon. The format change creates a more humanized portrait of a woman whose public persona is one of faithful wife and keeper of the flame. Rummel explores Hughes's development as a poet, his maturation as a social critic, and his constant struggle to earn a living through his art. Photographs help readers better place the narrative in the social and cultural times in which he lived. If the book has a fault, it may be the portrayal of Hughes as a perpetual optimist, when, in fact, he seemed to have constantly been on the verge of abject poverty. About the Author
Author Dale Evva Gelfand taught herself to read at the tender age of three. Clearly she was destined to be a wordsmith--and for some 30 years she has been happily plying her craft as a writer and a freelance book editor. On the writing side, she has authored YA books--biographies (ranging from historical legends to pop culture icons) and history--as well as a number of publications about creating and preserving wildlife habitat that all speak to her affinity for nature. She was also a contributing writer to several health-related reference books. As an editor, she has worked with major publishing houses on virtually every genre imaginable, from romances and Edgar Award-winning mysteries to cookbooks and guidebooks. When not reading pretty much anything she can get her hands on--especially of the history and arts variety--she can be found tending her gardens, hiking the woods with her lovable mutt (who co-exists with her two lovable cats far better than they co-exist with one another), and photographing the world around the upstate New York home that she shares with her significant other.

An Alien Non Human Perspective Story

The Demon of Cliffside is a very interesting story mostly because I don't know how to classify it.

It is adventure, with some mystery. Yet the main character is so... alien that you can't relate to them. The story kept me guessing and the twists were very unexpected.

The world it builds is detailed and unique. You can see how the world came to be the way it is with the physical laws it has.

I really enjoyed this story and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys their fantasy stories a bit different than usual.

While the opening chapters were a little slow, probably due to the fantastic amount of world building therein, it picked up quickly and, once it hit its stride, held my attention clear through the end. There were a couple of twists I expected and a couple more I certainly had not. Overall, it left me wanting more and I would highly recommend this to anyone interested in fantasy/adventure.
