Well written and thoroughly researched book on the end times.

Finally a book that answered so many of my questions about the end times! I have an open mind about end times ideas, so for me this book was refreshing as it offered a lot of explanations about the end times that I haven't read before. Those heavily `married' to other end times theories that this book doesn't adhere to of course might disagree with some of the points, but to me it is important that the ideas are backed up, and I found the explanations solidly supported and very credible (for example, the Biblical exegesis tool called Typology is explained and used).

The book very concisely breezes through Church history and then focuses on the twentieth century and along the way subtly blows holes in theories of a fourth secret of Fatima and its consecration not being done. As I read along, the book casually (almost nonchalantly, even) but convincingly explained the deeper meanings behind the Fatima apparition and provided answers to typical end times terms like the thousand years, the `short time of Satan' that comes at the end, the great tribulation and how it is cut short, that ever cryptic phrase `time, times, and a half time' (yes!), the Gospel being preached to the world, the coming of Elijah before Jesus returns, the final apostasy, the sign of the Son of Man in the sky - all of these end times issues and more were explained in a way that made perfect sense. The author even very cautiously offered speculation on upcoming key dates in Salvation History. Best of all, I am a Christian so I appreciate how it is not based on things like the Mayan calendar but leans instead on Sacred Scripture and (private) apparitions. I found it all very credible and I think it is a must read for those who are curious about the end times and just where we are on that timeline. After finishing the book and reflecting on it, I slowly realized I had been provided a lot of rock solid explanations to so many baffling end times questions, and I also came to realize how everything in the book had been seamlessly tied together to provide a cohesive picture of what is going on in these times. And seeing where we are in the end times, I feel I need to focus more on being a better Christian starting right now.

The best part (to me anyway)? I liked how the meaning of that mysterious phrase of Blessed Mary at Garabandal, "Three more popes and it will be the end of the times but not the end of the world" is given and now it finally makes sense! I have wondered about that for years!

And I have at times wondered why, if Blessed Mary said Satan was given one century, the twentieth, to test the Church, why does his time apparently continue even now, when that century is over? That mystery is resolved too! Five stars all the way!

A while longer
By Just an average mom.
It should be called Not Much Longer. I couldn't put it down. This is not a book of fluff. There obviously has been a lot of research and prayer put into this book. I would recommend it to anyone interested in the Book of Revelation and Our Lady's messages. Don't wait to read this one.

This book is one of the best that I have read in a very long time. The author has researched his material thoroughly and presents his findings in a clear, easy to read format. The summaries presented in different chapters of the book were also very helpful.

Although several biographers have thrown themselves into the breach since this magisterial book first appeared in 1959, none have come close to matching the late Richard Ellmann's achievement. To be fair, Ellmann does have some distinct advantages. For starters, there's his deep mastery of the Irish milieu--demonstrated not only in this volume but in his books on Yeats and Wilde. He's also an admirable stylist himself--graceful, witty, and happily unintimidated by his brilliant subjects. But in addition, Ellmann seems to have an uncanny grasp on Joyce's personality: his reverence for the Irishman's literary accomplishment is always balanced by a kind of bemused affection for his faults. Whether Joyce is putting the finishing touches on Ulysses, falling down drunk in the streets of Trieste, or talking dirty to his future wife via the postal service, Ellmann's account always shows us a genius and a human being--a daunting enough task for a fiction writer, let alone the poor, fact-fettered biographer.

It is impossible to praise this book too highly.

I've just finished reading this masterful biography, and it has had the magical effect of making me forget all others. This is a simply splendid book -- a life of the greatest writer of the 20th Century that is so scrupulously detailed that one leaves it feeling you personally know and like the subject. Joyce is presented to us from all sides -- as friend, husband, father, drinker, raconteur and most importantly, writer; a man with unparalleled control of the English language and no control of life or money. One measure of the book's genius is that it makes you feel quite close to Joyce toward the end -- as he gets ever blinder and broker, his energy used up by a book he knows will go unread and a daughter who is slowly succumbing to mental illness.
I think of this book now almost as part of the Joyce canon. I'm not sure you can really know Joyce without knowing Ellmann's Joyce, too.

A masterful biography of the enigmatic James Joyce.

Don't let the size of the book (including 67 pages of footnotes) daunt you; this is a beautifully written account of one of the most enigmatic figures in literature that combines precise scholarship with a straightforward narrative style into a model for the biographic form. Scholars of Joyce have undoubtedly read and re-read this book; however, for those readers who are just now approaching Joyce, or for those readers who have been frightened by the prospect, this biography will make the introduction painless as well as pleasant. Ellmann's biography treats every aspect of Joyce's life including family, friends, and the creative processs that resulted in his masterpieces. As Ellmann remarks in his preface: "In working over these pages, I have felt all my affection for him [Joyce] renewed." The reader of this judicious work will close the final page with this same sentiment.

When Irish Eyes Exile

Richard Ellmann's biography is the most definitive and complete examination of James Joyce that has been written. This extensive work examines Joyce's life from his birth to his death. Ellmann's narrative derives from Joyce's letters as well as accounts from Joyce's brother, Stanislaus. The book is most revealing in offering an understanding of the process it took for Joyce to come up with his most monumental works, ULYSSES AND FINNEGANS WAKE. Ellmann states that Joyce intentionally made it difficult for anyone to understand what he wrote. He wanted to keep his critics, academics and scholars, guessing of what significance his nonsensical gibberish creation represented. In addition, Ellmann intertwines events that occurred in Joyce's life that show how they closely resemble the characters in the works he produced, such as his early work, A PORTRAIT OF THE ARTIST AS A YOUNG MAN.

James Joyce most likely can be considered a "starving artist." He would go without a new pair of shoes until they wore down to the soles, but looked debonair and sophisticated with non-matching suits. In the beginning, he aspired to be a work within the realms of Jesuit studies, but later opted for a writing career that would take him from Trieste, Paris, and Zurich. Joyce struggled with poverty through out his life even as his most famous works were published. Monetary problems and health conditions that affected his eyesight never hindered his creative process. If he lost his eyesight, he probably would have continued to write blind. Joyce appeared to be an eccentric and stubborn man. However, Ellmann shows a caring and supporting man who loved his wife and children, and most of all, his father, John Stanislaus Joyce.

In terms to history and literature, Ellmann constantly references Joyce's fascination with Shakespeare, ancient civilization and history. This is best displayed in ULYSSES, but one significant footnote is that he did not appear to care for American history. He makes a minute reference to Ulysses S. Grant in ULYSSES, but he did not even know who the man was; Joyce loathed the United States. Also, Ellmann offers a birds-eye view of what his cohorts thought of his work. Gertrude Stein as well as Ernest Hemingway praised and envied Joyce's contributions to Modernism.

Ellmann examines a tremendous amount of information within his narrative. When one completes JAMES JOYCE, what else do you need to know about this genuine writer who used his craft as a means of getting back home, but never quite made it there? Bridget Grey has had a terrible childhood being in the foster care system with her best friend Jade at her side. Bridget marries the man of her dreams, and she's pregnant with twins. Everything seems fine until one of the babies is born black and the other one is born white. What makes it worse is that Bridget's husband is black. How can this be? Bridget's life is spinning out of control and she confides in Jade. But can Jade be trusted?

Color Me Grey is a riveting debut novel by Michelle Janine Robinson. Robinson expertly tackled a rare but true medical occurrence of fraternal twins being born to two different fathers. But there is a lot more than meets the eye with this book. Readers will find that Bridget's twins aren't the main plot of this book and that there are some shocking revelations that will make your jaw drop. There are also some intriguing secondary characters that play a role in Bridget's life that are an integral part of the story. Color Me Grey is full of non-stop drama and devastating secrets that will make you want to read future novels by Michelle Janine Robinson.

YAESSSS Hunty!!!!!! YAESSSS!!! Just finished reading Color Me Grey. Chyle..........yawl need some Ivanbitch and some Patron with this one. Whew, from prostitution, rape, marriage and an manipulative friend that is more poison than pure. WHEW, poor Bridget Grey has been through more tribulations, trial and hell that most of us have and she has a pure heart of gold. This books has so much twist and turns and the ending with have you feening for a Newport. This book originally came out in 2010 and I have to say that Michelle Janine Robinson is not to slept on you guys. She is now one of my few faves and her book On the Other Side has made my Books, Beauty and Stuff top 25 list. She is already approved and this book is so exception. Yes definitely recommended to the fullest.

Surprise! This One Caught Me Right Between The Eyes

Did you ever experience something that afterwards you felt you were destined to experience?

Well reading this book was one of those experiences for me. Now I am a fairly confident person or, at least I thought so prior to taking on this quick little read. However, what I learned was that my definition of confidence was only skimming the surface of what confidence really is and I never understood just how deep and extensive a reach confidence has on all aspects of our lives. I simply didn't give it that much thought. While I see my life as wonderful and I've accomplished a lot, it was no wonder why I felt certain areas of my life were not progressing to the degree that I felt they should be. Hmmm a confidence issue? I would have never believed it in a million years.

Anyway back to the book. The author does a masterful job at not only defining confidence but, then takes you down a path to help you identify your saboteurs and develop "true" confidence.

This book is definitely worth the read. It just may surprise you the way it did me.

In this book you find why some event always happen to you ,because you are not confident enough to deal with them .
I find this very useful in terms of categorizing the confidence ,and the method you use to evalute yourself and find current position of yours in confidence ruler .

Clear, easy to read, great examples, good summary of theories

I purchased this book for a health policy class I took as part of a master's in public health program. I've read a lot of policy books and documents in my time and know the subject matter can be dry (even for someone who is interested in the topic). But this book was surprisingly easy to read and gave clear explanations for the many theoretical terms and analytic frameworks it went over. It uses a lot of real world examples to illustrate its points. It gives a broad overview of the different actors, frameworks, and decision-making factors that going into creating policy, with a specific focus on health policy. I enjoyed reading this book and felt it conveyed useful information for those wanting an overview of how policies are developed.

Amazing!

I have read many books on body language, psychology, and communication. This book condenses amazing amounts of material into one little book. The most astounding thing is that the information is presented in such an entertaining and visual way that I have read and reread this book many times, each time learning something new. After reading just two books in the Wooden Books series I decided to buy all of them and after having read almost all of them now, I must say I am very pleased.

As always, Wooden Books really delivers with this. I was surprised at the caliber of information they put in this. It has NLP tips and tricks, which is nice enough, but even goes beyond that. Each page is dense with info.
